Ground Beetle

TruckThese beetles are common inhabitants of cornfields and other farm areas in South County. Most species are dark, shiny, and somewhat flattened. Homeowners may often confuse the beetles for cockroaches, carpet beetles, wood boring beetles, or some other household pest.

They are generally found under stones, logs, or debris and hide during the day but feed at night. Often a disturbance outside the home causes the pest to leave fields and enter the home. Although they do not damage the structure of the home in any way, they can become a nuisance when they invade the home in large numbers and can often become a concern to homeowners.
